User IP Parameters work much like User Parameters except that they allow Datasets to take one or more of their run-time parameters from the IP address of the logged in user rather than the user account.

They can be used in two ways:

  1. To provide Data Access Control by limiting a network location to only being able to run a dataset for a specified parameter value (the run-time parameter is hidden from users)
  2. To provide a “default” value for a parameter based on the network location of the logged in user (the run-time parameter is visible to users)

To add a new IP Parameter:

  • Click the “Add User Attribute” button
  • Select the name of the Parameter to take it’s values from the logged in user’s IP address from the drop-down list
  • Enter the value to be provided to the Dataset at run-time
  • Enter an IP address (or range) in the Range From and Range To fields
  • Check the “Enabled” box
  • Click Update

Configuring a Dataset to make use of these IP Parameters is the exact same as the process to configure a Dataset to make user of User Parameters
