Data returned by a dataset query can be returned to the user in the form of an icon (e.g. a red/amber or green circle to represent Traffic Light statuses).

First we must load the icons we wish to return to the user in the Icons screen and take note of the icon ID

Then, the Dataset query must be adjusted to include a case statement that identifies when each icon is to be shown e.g.:

SELECT Department, Budget, Actual, Variance,
CASE WHEN Variance > 10 THEN “1” WHEN Variance BETWEEN 0 AND 10 THEN “2” ELSE “3” END AS Variance_Icon
FROM TableName

Finally, in Advanced Field Properties of the newly defined field, the Cell Type should be changed to “Icon”:

(If this is being performed as a modification to an existing Dataset, the field must be Fetched into the Field Definition screen first using the Fetch Fields button)
