Data returned by a dataset query can be displayed to the user in the form of a piece of HTML (e.g. for linking to external systems)

First the Dataset query must be adjusted to include the HTML String to be parsed:

SELECT Department_Code, Department, Budget, Actual, Variance,
'<a href="http://thirdpartysystem/Department=' + Department_Code + '"> Department Page on External System </a>' as HTML_LINK_TO_TPS
FROM TableName

(The above example would use the Department Code returned in the query to generate a URL link to that Department’s page on a third party web-site that could accept a Department code as a pass-in parameter.)

Next, in Advanced Field Properties of the newly defined field, the Cell Type should be changed to “HTML” to ensure the URL shows as “Department Page on External System” in the data grid instead of simply showing a string of HTML code:

(If this is being performed as a modification to an existing Dataset, the field must be Fetched into the Field Definition screen first using the Fetch Fields button)
