Group Summaries are used to aggregate/summarise data. Without Group Summaries views would simply be “flat” lists of columns and rows. Summaries allow you to analyse that data. Sorting by Group Summaries can help answer questions such as showing sales by staff member in descending order.

You can add a group summary by navigating to a view in Analyser and clicking the Group Summary icon

A Popup will appear which lists the grouping currently on your selected view, from here you can delete groupings, or add new groupings.

To Add a grouping, click the ‘Add’ Button and fill out the relevant fields

Title : Optional. You may specify a custom name for the new grouping
Field : You must choose one field, which the view will be grouped on.
Summary Type: You must choose one of the available operations to apply to this group.

Display Format: You must apply a display mask to the grouping to alter the display of its output. Available display masks:
0 Displays unformatted numbers
0, Displays numbers with comma-separated thousands e.g. 1000 -> 1,000
£0 Displays numbers preceded with the currency symbol specified
0.00 Displays numbers to two levels of decimal place
0.000 Displays numbers to three levels of decimal place (add zeros for more places)
0.000E+00 Displays using scientific notation
Val: £0,.00 Would combine all the above to show 1000 as ‘Val: £1,000.00’ in Group Headers
0.00;(0.00) Display numbers to two decimal places, showing negative values in brackets

Display: You must choose where the grouping will appear; on the group Header, or footer:

  • Group header is displayed on the dropdown bar at the header of each group.
  • Group Footer is displayed at the bottom of each group in Analyser, below the Grouped field (You must expand the Group to see this value).

Sort Charts by this Summary: Optional. You may select this to sort your chart based view by the grouped field

Once you are happy with the values in the Group Summary Designer, click save and you should observe the new group summary value at the header/footer of the view
