To enable Nathean Analytics to send email, the section of the Web application’s web.config file and Nathean Schedule Service’s LogixScheduleService.exe.config files must be edited to include the connection details for an SMTP server:

 <mailSettings>
		<!-- Method#1: Configure smtp server credentials -->
		<smtp from="reports@nathean.com">
			<network host="smtp.nathean.com" enableSsl=" true" port="25" userName="reports@nathean.com" password="Password1" />
		</smtp>
		<!-- Method#2: Dump emails to a local directory -->
		<!--
			<smtp from="reports@nathean.com" deliveryMethod="SpecifiedPickupDirectory">
				<network host="localhost" />
				<specifiedPickupDirectory pickupDirectoryLocation="c:\temp\"/>
			</smtp>
			-->
    </mailSettings>

Method#1 is the most common configuration and here the system admin must provide:

  • smtp from – the email address to display mail as having been sent from
  • host – the URL or IP address of the SMTP Server which is visible to the Nathean Analytics server
  • port – the port on which the SMTP server is open

The following settings may also be required (depending on the SMTP Server configuration)

  • enableSsl – set to true if the SMTP server requires an SSL connection
  • userName – the username of an account with privileges to send mail on the SMTP server
  • password – the password of the above account

Method#2: can be used to save emails to a directory which is being polled by the SMTP client. Comment out the Medhod#1 settings and uncomment this section to use this method:

  • smtp from – the email address to display mail as having been sent from
  • specifiedPickupDirectory pickupDirectoryLocation – the folder to save emails to
